This tour will give you a great opportunity to meet both the gorillas and chimpanzee in their natural habitat deep in Nyungwe and Volcanoes national park.
Day 1: Transfer to Nyungwe Forest National Park
After breakfast, you will depart for Nyungwe Forest National Park a home to over 13 species of primates coupled with chimpanzees the closest relative to human. En route to the Park, visit historical and cultural sites in Butare and Nyanza. Don’t forget also to visit the National Museum and the National University in Butare. Take a visit also to the Old King’s Palace (Old Mwami’s palace) in Nyanza for a cultural interaction. Have lunch in Butare and later continue with the journey to Nyanza and arrive in the evening. Day 2: Chimpanzee trek in Nyungwe
wake- up early for a morning breakfast at the lodge after, head to the park headquarters to receive short briefings about the dos and don’ts while with the chimps. After this small briefing follow the ranger guide deep into the forest to begin the search for the chimps in the forest. Chimp trekking is unpredictable since they are wild animals however it usually takes between 3-10 hours. During the search of chimps, you will as well meet other primates and forest dwellers including the Silver monkey, Owl faced monkey, Ruwenzori colobus, L’hoests monkey, and the Grey cheeked Mangabey and many species of birds so many others. Once the chimps are met, you are strictly allowed only one hour with them studding their behaviors as well as taking photos with them. Day 3: Transfer to Ruhengeri
wake up early for an early breakfast after, your safari guide will transfer you to Ruhengeri town the closest town near Volcanoes National Park. Upon arrival, have a short tour around the town and visit the local markets. From here continue with the safari to your pre-booked accommodation for dinner and an overnight stay at Kinigi Guest House/Mountain Gorilla View Lodge/Le Bambou Gorilla Lodge
Day 4: Gorilla tracking in Volcanoes National Park
after breakfast, setoff to the ORTPN Offices with packed lunch for briefing about the dos and don’ts while with the gorillas and also get assigned to the gorilla tracking escorts and Rangers. Head deep into the forest to start the search of gorillas. Gorilla trekking is one of the most done safari activities at the park. Gorilla trekking time is unpredictable, since they are wild animals, they move freely in their natural habitat and once they are met you strictly allowed only one hour with them, its enjoyful encounter with the Gorillas and wonderful experience. After lunch, visit the twin lakes of Ruhondo and Bulera. Dinner and overnight stay at Virunga Volcanoes Lodge / Sabinyo Silver Back Lodge/Mountain Gorilla View Lodge/Kinigi guest house/Hotel Muhabura
Day 5: Transfer back to Kigali
After, breakfast will be followed with a short tour around Ruhengeri and then later transfer back to Kigali arriving in time for Lunch. Later you will drop off to Kigali to meet your departure flight back home.
