This tour will take you to Congo in the Northwestern part of the Democratic Republic of Congo and Hike to the smoky Strato Nyiragongo volcano the world’s largest lava lake. It’s just a drive of about 19 km from Goma, and Nyiragongo is the most active volcano in the world. The tour will begin and end in Rwanda. Most safaris to Congo starts from Kigali international airport which enable by the international flights that land in Kigali so you will have an overnight in Kigali’s best hotels and the drive to Gisyi will start the next day.
Day 1: Pick up from Kigali to Goma – Congo
After breakfast at your hotel/Lodge, our safari guide will meet and brief you about the safari and later he will transfer you to Gisenyi in the northern part of Rwanda which is the largest port on L. Kivu. If time allows, enjoy a boat cruise of Africa’s highest lake, the boat cruise is rewarding with fantastic views of the islands and far sights of the Nyiragongo volcano, you will also stand a chance to view some species of birds that live and feed on the lake. Come back to the main land for lunch and later proceed to cross the border with Congo to Goma town which is the capital of the North Kivu province. Bukima Tented Camp, Mikemp Lodge, Ihusu Lodge on Lake Kivu in Goma. OR alternative you will sleep in Gisenyi and cross the border to the starting point in Kabit the following day. .Day 2: Nyiragongo Volcano Hiking.
In the morning after breakfast, you will be transferred to the starting point in Kibat patrol post on the foot of Nyiragongo with your bags to begin the hike to Nyiragongo one of the most active and violent volcanoes on the Continent with the world’s most fluid and largest lava lake. The porter will help to carry your backpacker and will also help to prepare your meal on the top of the volcano. The hike begins at 10am and it lasts for about 5-6 hour. The speed of the hike depends on the speed of the last person. Some physical fitness is needed as the hike is somehow demanding although the path is relatively easy and not too high. The volcano’s forested lower slopes are a home to a variety of animals including monkeys and bush bucks. The hike through lush rainforest will climax with a charming view of this lava lake as you chill out for a night at the crater rim. Overnight in tents at the top of the volcano.
Day 3: Descend and return to Kigali
Wake up for a simple breakfast and then descend to the base and you will have a picnic lunch either in Goma or at Gisenyi and later you will be transferred back to Kigali/ hotel/airport for your departure flight back home.
